Battle in South Dakota

Voters in South Dakota will decide on a referendum, Measure IM-22, which would stop unlimited gifts from lobbyists to politicians and require more transparency in political financing. David and Charles Koch have launched a coalition to defeat the referendum.

Measure IM-22 calls for public disclosure of donors who fund advocacy efforts, the creation of a state ethics commission, and public financing of political campaigns. It would limit lobbyists’ gifts to elected officials, and lower the amount of allowable campaign contributions to candidates, parties, and political action committees.

No wonder the Kochs don’t like it.
