Almost two years ago (March, 2019), the House passed H.R.1, For the People Act of 2019, a bill which could have been the most sweeping anti-corruption measure passed by the House of Representatives in a generation. Among other things, the bill focused on voting rights, campaign finance, and government ethics. It has been reintroduced in this session of Congress and referred to various committees. The draft is in the hands of the Democratic party leaders and whips, who will go back and forth and check with a variety of the members to finalize the draft and then send it to the whole House. It is doubtful that it will be introduced into the Senate until it passes the House.
H.R.1 is described as the progressive response to the disastrous Citizens United decision by the Supreme Court in 2010.
