Hoosier School Vouchers – Jury is Still Out

The voucher program was approved by Indiana legislators in 2011 touting that it would give poor children access to better schools, however, that is not borne out by research.

Indiana students who used vouchers to transfer to private schools fell behind their public-school peers academically, according to a study by researchers at the universities of Kentucky and Notre Dame.   And the loss of learning persisted for several years.”

The Hoosier voucher program diverts $154 million dollars to private (and mostly religious schools) from the public tax dollars needed to serve the majority of our children in public education.
