U.S. Representative R-Salem, Congressional 9th District (Brown, Clark, Dearborn, Decatur, Floyd, Harrison, Jackson, Jefferson, Jennings, Lawrence, Monroe, Ohio, Ripley, Scott, Switzerland, & Washington Counties)
Gun Safety
November 3, 2023
Roughly one week ago the public had to endure the 36th mass shooting this year. A gunman killed 18 people and injured 13 others during a shooting spree at two locations in Maine. One might well ask what our elected officials in Washington are doing to stem this epidemic of violence.
When U. S. Representative Erin Houchin from Indiana’s 9th Congressional District was asked, this was buried in the second paragraph of her response.
“I will always stand for a law-abiding citizen’s ability to exercise their 2nd Amendment rights.” But this avoids the core issue in the Lewiston shootings – access to assault weapons.
Nor has she proposed or supported gun safety legislation that 85% of Americans see as common sense such as background checks or red flag laws.
Houchin is new to the U.S. Congress, but not politics. She was an Indiana legislator from 2015 to 2022. She failed to address this issue while in the State House as well.

A staunch supporter of the former President Donald Trump, her campaigns have been supported by the usual business, banking, insurance, and power companies, but one contributor stands out–the National Rifle Association (NRA). She received an “A+” rating, the highest given from the NRA Political Victory Fund in her campaign for her latest office. The NRA opposes any meaningful legislation to control the sale of guns, ammunition, or background checks before purchasing a weapon.
Houchin was elected to represent voters in the following counties: Brown, Clark, Dearborn, Decatur, Floyd, Harrison, Jackson, Jefferson, Jennings, Lawrence, Monroe, Ohio, Ripley, Scott, Switzerland, and Washington. She is on the ballot again in 2024.
Trump Not Guilty?
February 21, 2024
On February 6, 2024, the U.S. House of Representatives passed a non-binding resolution H. Res. 1001 declaring that former President Trump, “…did not engage in insurrection or rebellion against the United States, or give aid or comfort to the enemies thereof.”
U.S. Representative Erin Houchin of Indiana’s 9th Congressional District was a co-sponsor with other Trump hardliners Marjorie Taylor Greene, Paul Gosar, Jim Banks, Elise Stefanik, Lauren Boebert, and Andrew Clyde et al.

As voters we have to wonder why. We all saw with our own eyes how our capitol was stormed as well as what the bi-partisan January 6th Committee documented about it being a Presidential plan of last resort as well as hours of Presidential inaction to stop it.

It is noteworthy that Houchin raised $1,347,483.31 in her bid to be elected by Hoosiers in 2022 when that seat was vacated by Trey Hollingsworth. Do you think all that money came from inside her district? Or, is she being influenced by outside groups who want her to vote on policies they like.
The 9th District includes voters in Brown, Clark, Dearborn, Decatur, Floyd, Harrison, Jackson, Jefferson, Jennings, Lawrence, Monroe, Ohio, Ripley, Scott, Switzerland, and Washington counties.
She is on the ballot again this year, but does have a couple challengers: One of them is Tim Peck D-New Washington in Clark County. He not only has the endorsement of former U.S. Representative Baron Hill, but also the 9th District Democratic Committee.
Attacks Rule of Law
June 24, 2024
Several times recently U.S. Representative Erin Houchin of Indiana’s 9th Congressional District has spoken publicly about Trump and his recent criminal trials. On May 21st she voted with Republicans to block mentioning Trump’s indictments on the House floor. Then on May 31st she called Trump’s conviction in New York a “clear miscarriage of justice.”

If this weren’t enough, she has long been associated with disgraced and indicted former Clark Co., Indiana sheriff and GOP District 9 Chair Jamey Noel, a Republican power broker in Southern Indiana. According to state and federal campaign finance records, he has poured more than $100,000 into GOP campaigns between 2008 and 2022, including $2,900 to Erin Houchin, which is the maximum he could give. Shouldn’t Houchin give this money back?
The 9th Congressional District includes voters in Brown, Clark, Dearborn, Decatur, Floyd, Harrison, Jackson, Jefferson, Jennings, Lawrence, Monroe, Ohio, Ripley, Scott, Switzerland, and Washington counties.
She is on the ballot again this year, but does have an outstanding Democratic challenger: Tim Peck. He not only has the endorsement of former U.S. Representative Baron Hill, but also the 9th District Democratic Committee. He is an honorable man who believes we are a nation of laws and will decide policies on their merit not party.
American Values Matter
October 25, 2024
If you think the legitimate prosecution of Trump in New York is a “clear miscarriage of Justice,” then U.S. Rep. Erin Houchin, CD9, is the candidate you will want to re-elect this fall.
But wait, there’s more. She also supported Rep. Matt Gaetz’s resolution saying that Trump “did not engage in insurrection or rebellion against the United States,” which begs the question of whether she watched the bi-partisan Committee hearings over the summer. [Emphasis ours]
Failing to appear in any Monroe County town halls (including the one by the League of Women Voters), she did send a couple staffers to Ellettsville 19 August 2024 to answer questions about federal agencies. When a representative of Reverse Citizens United asked how they could work for someone who did not condemn the January 6 attack on the capitol, one of the young men replied because it was in line with his values.
It’s difficult to know whether Houchin really believes the big lie, or whether it is just in her political interest to do so. Either way, it doesn’t respect the peaceful transfer of power, a quintessential American value.

Rep. Houchin was the beneficiary of over $1.5 million in her bid to be elected in 2022 when Rep. Trey Hollingsworth stepped down. Do you think all this money came from her southern Indiana constituents? This money came from PACs, and big donors, many from outside the state.
One constituent donor, however, was convicted felon and former Clark County Sheriff Jamey Noel who donated $2,900. Noel was charged with more than $4 million in “questionable spending” due to outright theft of tax monies through schemes. He has now been convicted and sentenced to 15 years in prison.
If you are ready to turn the page, the 9th congressional district¹ has an outstanding Democratic challenger: Tim Peck . He not only has the endorsement of former U.S. Representative Baron Hill, but also the 9th District Democratic Committee. He in an honorable man who wants to know why Houchin is not giving that donation from Noel back to the taxpayers of Clark County.
