When the Supreme Court of the United States decided to grant political contributions the first-amendment protection freedom of speech, they undid centuries of campaign finance boundaries. Thus, Indiana had a great deal of outside money flood our state resulting in one-party rule from 2012 to the present. Voters have been gerrymandered so that some votes count a lot more than others. Thus, our public education tax dollars have been up for grabs.
The Republican budget leader has proposed SB 255 that would give all parents the option to apply online for their child’s share of these education tax dollars we all pay wihout any accountability. That amounts to roughly $6 thousand per student taking money from our schools.
