The US military health care system was for many years one of the best government run health care systems in the country. However heavy lobbying and large amounts of campaign contributions to politicians from the private Health care industry have led to efforts to outsource beneficiary care from the military treatment facilities to civilian institutions, which emptied out and hollowed out storied military medical centers like Walter Reed.In fact the Pentagon did activate a plan to tame massive health care costs by pushing military medical care into the private sector, especially for family members. This has led to a decline in the quality of health care received by military members and their dependents.
Th 2010 Supreme Court’s Citizens United decision unleashed a deluge of unlimited campaign contributions that has made it possible for industries such as Healthcare to influence politicians into making misguided decisions such as the privatization of military health care.
