Will having 3^rd graders who don’t pass IREAD-3 improve Indiana’s reading proficiency levels?  That is the question. Republican legislative leaders as well as the Indiana Secretary of Education Katie Jenner think it will. But have they considered the cost of adding another year? Have they taken into account the negative social and emotional impacts? Wouldn’t investments that support learning be a much better strategy? 

The 2010 ruing for Citizens United gave rise to Super PACs funding a Republican supermajority for Hoosiers. Those PACs want to use education tax dollars to go to private schools and kill public education by a thousand cuts.
