The Center for Media and Democracy (CMD) has been in the forefront in exposing groups such as ALEC (the American Legislative Exchange Council) which seek to undermine progressive policies by using the money big donors (principally corporations) give to influence state legislators. With the unrestricted flow of money after the Citizens United decision in 2010, the influence of corporations (which according to the US Supreme Court should be treated as “people”) on public policy has increased dramatically. It’s worth taking the time to learn more about CMD, a nationally recognized watchdog group.
