Out-of-state billionaires such as the Walton family of Arkansas through Hoosiers for Quality Education and Netflix CEO Reed Hastings through Hoosiers for Great Public Schools certainly got their money’s worth in the 2023 Hoosier legislative session! The strategy of tearing down public schools by sowing distrust (setting the stage for banning books and prosecuting school librarians) and expanding what they call “School choice” secured “sizeable increases in state funding to pay for facilities and transportation, along with—for the first time—a share of local property taxes,” according to Steve Hinnefeld.
